The recent online rumours of violence against migrant workers from north India in Tamil Nadu brought another issue to the limelight — the sheer magnitude of dependency of the State on this workforce, as a unit. While the news of violence was mostly fake, it must be remembered that some of these migrant workers continue to exist in very basic living conditions, often with no access to government welfare schemes
